IF You Can Dream It... You Can Do It: Rana Kapoor

1. How did you become interested in banking?

I began my corporate career with Bank of America, after graduating with an MBA from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA and graduating from SRCC, Delhi. This was in 1980, and I was one of the few graduates who came back to work in India. But I knew, the moment I landed in Mumbai, that I would be establishing a career here, in this maximum city. I am a Professional Entrepreneur who got a divine opportunity to establish a pannational “commercial & retail” bank in India approximately 12 years ago… named YES BANK, a simple, positive, experiential yet sometimes difficult name for a bank – YES – which in a way symbolizes a new age India. YES BANK is the only NEW Greenfield /startup bank to be established in India in the past nearly 2 decades. In a relatively short span of time, we have employed and therefore created 14000+ jobs and is the 5th largest private bank in India with 900 branches across India.

2. What is your agenda for making YES BANK the best quality bank of the world?

In the year 2015-16, YES BANK took multiple initiatives aimed at preparing itself for accelerated growth with a focus on Action and Quality to achieve Size and Scale as a High Quality Large Bank in India.

In this crucial ‘Large Bank’ phase, the strategic imperative is on deepening Mind Share amongst our clients and stakeholders, and converting this into business traction and growing our Market Share. We will leverage our differentiated Knowledge Banking offering while continuing to innovate across all units within the Bank driven by design, creative entrepreneurship and outcomes.
