IT WAS THE SUMMER OF 1951, in the month of May. It was very hot, with the scorching sun above, but it was also the best time to see wild animals or even hunt them, which was permitted then. They left for ‘Khakri’, an outhouse 25km away from Rewa, situated on the foothills of the Kaimur range and facing an astonishingly beautiful lake, which was often used as a base camp for proceeding towards the Sidhi jungles, which today is the Sanjay-Dubri National Park.
