Google Play Indie Games Accelerator 2018
HERE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA, GAMING IS QUICKLY FINDING ITS STEADY PLACE, AND WITH IT COMES THE GROWING CLAMOR FOR NEW GAMES THAT ARE RELATABLE TO OUR SHARED CULTURES AND THAT WE CAN BE PROUD TO CALL OUR OWN.
Seeing immense potential in the talent coming out of the region, Google initiated a program that would help grow the region’s independent game development community and rear them to become competitive in the global stage.
The first-ever Independent Game Accelerator (IGA), held at the Google headquarters in Singapore last November 2018, gave select indie game developers from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Singapore, and the Philippines, the opportunity to rub elbows with like-minded peers and be mentored by industry experts.
BOOTCAMPS
A spin-off of Google’s other accelerators, IGA consists of a comprehensive gaming curriculum detailed during the boot camp sessions. The accelerator curriculum consists of training workshops and clinics focusing on core areas such as Game Development (design best practices and Google Platforms including Android Studio, AR Core, Firebase, Google Cloud, Instant Games), Business Development (Google Play Console, YouTube Gaming, User Acquisition best practices, Monetization models and more), and People and Team Culture Development (hiring the right people, building company culture and leadership development).

What started out as a fan-made alternative to Harvest Moon (Back to Nature is definitely one of my ultimate favorite games of all time), the game eventually received financial support and a cult following, paving the way for its release in 2016. By 2020, the game has sold over 10 million copies.
