The History Of Fighting Games On XBOX

Fighting games have done more to evolve console gaming than any other type of videogame, and both the genre and its most famous game series are still going strong. We look at the history of the games, and round up the best ones you can play on Xbox One.

No single genre is more influential on the evolution and popularity of video games than the fighting game. The arena-based beat ’em up has a long and impressive history on Xbox, even in the relatively short 18 years Microsoft’s console has been around, and most of its main franchises are still fighting fit. As those long-standing series retain their retro cool and fans still clamour for more from their one sprite-based heroes, what better time to delve into a brief history of fighting games on Xbox?

First we’ve got to go back to a time before Xbox, of course… before consoles at all in fact, when your fix of great fighting games had to come from the arcades.
