THE FUTURE, ONCE MORE, IS GREEN

So this is the game all true Xbox fans are waiting for. Halo: Combat Evolved was a launch title for the original Xbox back in 2001, and so it’s come full circle for Master Chief. Everyone’s favourite seven-foot space marine is going to be the star of the launch title for the fourth generation of Xbox, when Project Scarlett lands in our laps in 2020.

A substantial cinematic trailer unveiled at E3 sets up the story for what developer 343 Industries claims is a “spiritual reboot”, though it absolutely does follow on from Halo 5’s story. It shows Master Chief floating in space, and rescued by a UNSC survivor in a barely functional spacecraft. His armour rebooted, the Chief’s in-helmet UI flickers back to life – an exciting nod to how we’re going to feel firing up his story once more. We then get a sense of both the dire predicament these two characters are in, and the apparent hopelessness of the situation. Chief looks out on the wreckage of a Halo ring, the evident aftermath of a battle that the survivor tells him “we lost”.
