Ryan's Song: Safety ends emotional week with a game-saving interception for Giants, wife
The Giant Insider|December 7, 2020
Man, what a week for Giants safety Logan Ryan. The sign of a true professional is when he can somehow summon the courage he did not know he had. To look at adversity in the face and overcome it, to look at despair and not let your teammates know how much it hurts and continue to do your job.
Chris Bisignano
Only after Logan Ryan thanked the Giants for saving his wife Ashley’s life, did the emotional, inspirational, Ryan let loose to the media after the win against the Washington Football team. He did not hide his feelings.

“It was an extremely emotional week,” Ryan said. “As you guys know from the last time I talked to you all about my wife, I am extremely grateful to the organization and to my wife. She’s a fighter. To not lose her there in that situation is very fortunate. At the same time, my wife and I mourn in silence of our lost child during that process. We mourn a loss but we will move on.”

Oh. My. God.

The silence on the Zoom call was deafening. Nobody expected to hear that come out of Ryan’s mouth and you could feel the sadness from all of us who cover the Giants on a daily basis.

If you’re not familiar with the story, I will recap: Ryan’s wife, Ashley, flew to the family’s offseason home in Florida to vote in the presidential election after the Giants’ Monday night loss to the Buccaneers.

“I was leaving the stadium around 1 a.m. and she was telling me about some pains,” Ryan said. “I told her to sleep it off. She said she was in extreme pain but would wait (until) the morning.”

SHOPPING FOR A NEW DC

With the imminent departure of Robert Saleh during the offseason to a head coaching position elsewhere in the NFL, the 49ers will find themselves searching for a new defensive coordinator for the first time since 2017. With the defensive talent the 49ers have on hand, and San Francisco possessing a playoff-ready roster and one of the NFL’s most respected coaching staffs, the position will be attractive to a wide variety of candidates, including several veteran coaches who have had previous success in the league. Here’s a look at some top candidates who could be in the running to become San Francisco’s new DC in 2021.
