Beaver Nazo: Waseem, you got knocked out of the Telkom Knockout in the Last 16 stage, going down 1-0 to Orlando Pirates last Saturday.
Waseem Isaacs: It was always going to be an uphill battle playing Pirates at Orlando, but I think we gave a good account of ourselves. We played well and were unlucky to concede that goal. I don’t think we did anything wrong, we were just unlucky to concede that goal against the run of play.
BN: You play them again in the league this weekend, but at home this time around.
WI: Well, they will have to pay. We want to move up the table and the Telkom Knockout loss is still fresh in our minds. It will be a good game though because Pirates are a quality side.
BN: How have you found playing in the Absa Premiership?
WI: I am enjoying it, man, I don’t want to lie. This is my first time playing in the Absa Premiership and it is something I have always wished for. It’s been a very good experience so far.
BN: You finished second behind Iqraam Rayners, your current strike partner who, scored 19 league goals. You scored 32 goals between yourselves last season. Have you chatted about that, now that you are teammates?
WI: We never really speak about last season’s goals that we scored, but we always talk about how we could get to score goals for the team. We always talk about how we can improve and how we can help the team.
BN: Interestingly, both of you have played right back at your previous teams.
WI: Ha, ha, ha, now that you mention it, I recall he was once a right back and was converted here to striker. But I was always a striker or a winger, at the very least, until I played right back in Slovakia.

The next step was to become an assistant, a job he performed with aplomb, before being called on to take the hotseat together with John Maduka after the departure of Steve Komphela at the tail end of 2018. Much against general expectation, the duo has done fairly well, if Celtic’s off-field troubles of the recent past are to be taken into consideration.
