HE PROBABLY wouldn’t describe himself this way, but Caleb Love is a bit of a history buff. It’s just that his areas of expertise are pretty specific.
He knows the proud athletic history of Christian Brothers College HS, aka CBC, where the Cadets maintain one of the best athletic programs in the state, including powerhouse programs in soccer and ice hockey.
He knows the deep history of St. Louis ballplayers, from CBC alumni like Larry Hughes and Patrick McCaw to fellow LoU natives like Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal.
And then there’s a bit of history that’s a little more personal: His own ranking history in the eyes of national talent scouts. Just two years ago, Love was ranked well outside the national top 100 by pretty much every high school talent evaluator. Today, the 6-3, 180-pounder is a consensus top-20 prospect and top-5 point guard in the 2020 class, a McDonald’s All-American, and the No. 1 player in Missouri. And it’s that history, as much as anything, that drives him.
