League strips Las Vegas of sixth-round selection
Violations cost Raiders draft pick

It was no surprise whatsoever when the NFL came down hard on the Raiders for their repeated violations of the Covid-19 protocols put in place to help the league get through this insanely wild season.

Las Vegas became the first team to lose a draft pick over the situation when the NFL stripped the Raiders of a sixth-round pick in 2021. Additionally, Jon Gruden was fined a second time, this time for $150,000, while the Raiders as a team were dinged for $500,000.

Rightfully so. Despite Gruden’s insistence that the Raiders have been at the forefront of the battle against the pandemic, and despite owner Mark Davis’ declaration that the latest penalties handed down by the league’s front office were ‘draconian,’ the truth is that the team has fallen well short of the standards that have been set and, in some ways, are alone in their repeated violations.

That’s why the NFL decided to come down as hard as it did.

Gruden feeling the heat?

Gruden feeling the heat?

“I know there is a big bull’s-eye on my chest, certainly. If the people want to use that as an incentive, then so be it. I worked for Al Davis in 1998. That was pressure. I was 34 years old. I’ve dealt with pressure before. I don’t really feel pressure. I love the excitement and thrill of competing, and I can’t worry about things I can’t control in that regard. I know people will want to step on me and beat me, and that is just the way this league is.”
