10 Best Tips David Law

Tee-to-green tips from the Scot, who won in only the fifth start of his rookie European Tour season. Just don’t ask him about reading greens…
10 Best Tips David Law

1 Increasing power

A lot of amateurs will just try and swing faster, and when you do that you can tighten up. It’s important to remain as relaxed as you possibly can. Widen your stance a fraction, yes, but the crucial thing is to feel relaxed. Focus on a light grip pressure – so if ten were strong, I’d recommend four or five.

2 Coping with nerves

It’s all about having the same routine before every shot. So, take the same amount of practice swings and the same number of looks at the hole. The reason you do that is so that when you are under pressure, the situation feels just the same. It helps you to keep focused and relieve tension.

3 Reading greens

I’m actually not a terrific reader of greens to be honest! Generally a green will slope from back to front and you’re looking where the highest point of the green around the hole is, roughly. Then you can gauge whether it’s left-to-right or right-to-left.

4 Course management
