Kevin Campbell
Everton Programmes|Everton v West Bromwich Albion

In a six-year Blues career, Kevin Campbell helped create golden memories for Evertonians – from scoring goals to keep the Club in the top flight, to his derby winner at Anfield. The former striker explains why he “feels blessed to be a Blue”, and his recordmaking stint at today’s opponents, West Brom

Kevin, as a former Blue with huge affinity for Everton, what do you make of the Club’s progress under Ronald Koeman?

I really like what he is doing. There’s some good young players there and it is an exciting time.

Koeman made a few good additions in January and the team have picked up, which has shown how Everton have progressed under the manager. He’s done it the smart way and taken his time.

How impressed have you been with our January signings?

I like the look of Schneiderlin. He’s a proven Premier League player who has worked with the manager before so he knows what he’s getting out of him. As for Lookman, he’s a London boy with big talent and is hungry, which is what you want. I’m sure the Evertonians will embrace him because he’s an exciting player.

The ambition for the future is to challenge for the top four. Can that be achieved?

It’s a slow process but Tottenham have done it so why not Everton? Tottenham want to be a massive club, Everton are a massive club. We’ve been there, seen it, done it, won titles. The right people are in the right place to do it, and there’s the development of young players, which Everton have a fantastic history of doing.

And there’s plenty of young talent coming through.

Absolutely. Everton have got the right people at the Club to give them the right grounding in order to be successful. It’s difficult for some clubs to give youngsters a first-team chance but Everton really do make it a possibility because they believe in youth.
