Francis Jeffers praised the centre-back partnership of Morgan Feeney and Lewis Gibson after watching the Under-23s play out a goalless draw with Manchester United.

Despite a late barrage and dominating in spells throughout the game on Monday night, the young Blues were unable to find a way through a stubborn Red Devils defence and were forced to settle for a point that leaves them third in the Premier League 2 table.

But Jeffers, who once again took charge of the side in the absence of regular boss David Unsworth and assistant John Ebbrell, drew on the positives after an improved performance following defeat in the Merseyside mini-derby the last time out, with captain Feeney and England Under-17s World Cup winner Gibson catching the eye of the former Toffees striker.
