Team India exited the T20 World Cup 2021 with one of their worst performances ever. Although they won their last three matches with convincing margins, it was never going to matter as the main contests were always going to be against Pakistan and New Zealand. India floundered both tests and hence were dumped out of the tournament. It obviously cannot be denied that biobubble fatigue was not a factor. It was. As outgoing Team India coach pointed out, even Bradman’s average would have come down if he had to stay in a bubble for long periods. However, that is not the point. What needs to be understood here is how Team India have shifted the IPL goalpost.

IPL: FROM “BEST PREPARATION” FOR WORLD CUP TO CAUSE OF “FATIGUE”

In the build-up to the T20 World Cup, all the talk was centered around how the second half of the IPL, which was being played in the UAE, was the best preparation for the World Cup. Most Indian players and experts subscribed to this view unanimously.

However, now that India have crashed out in an unceremonious fashion, the IPL is becoming the scapegoat. Every player was aware of the duration of the IPL and the short changeover time between the IPL and the T20 World Cup.
