The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is the home ground of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) most successful franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). Established in 1974, the stadi-um is one of the most popular grounds in India and has a capacity of 33,108. It was renovated for the 2011 World Cup. Before the upgrade, the capacity of the stadium was approximately 45,000.

The Wankhede Stadium hosted the 2011 World Cup final in which India beat Sri Lanka to lift the trophy after 28 years. Homeboy Sachin Tendulkar also played his last Test match over here while it was at Wankhede that Ravi Shastri hit six sixes in an over. The stadium has floodlights, and Sudhir Naik is the curator.

WANKHEDE STADIUM REVAMP - A FAN’S DELIGHT

Ahead of the 2011 World Cup, Wankhede Stadium was overhauled to provide better facilities to fans in terms of bucket seating, a large number of toilets, and food courts. One of the highlights of the revamped Wankhede Stadium is said to be the suspended cantilever roofs. The Teflon fabric roof is lighter in weight and is also heat resistant.
