Apart from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals are the only one from the franchises taking part in IPL 2020 not to have won the tournament even once. That says a lot about Delhi’s underwhelming performance in domestic T20’s showpiece event.
Delhi began their IPL journey on an impressive note, reaching the semi-finals in 2008 and 2009 before being eliminated. They ended fifth in 2010 before hitting a real low, finishing 10th out of 10 teams in 2011. After coming back well to make the playoffs in 2012, they had an extended lean run. It was finally in 2019, after six-consecutive failed attempts that they got past the league stage. Here’s a closer analysis of Delhi’s 2020 IPL squad.
STRENGTHS: BALANCED BATTING LINE-UP
One of the reasons behind Delhi’s resurgence last year was their versatile batting line-up. The core of the team is the same this year as well. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw formed an impressive pairing at the top of the order. Further, young skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with some confidence-boosting knocks while even the unpredictable Rishabh Pant played a few blazing knocks.
