RANVEER PLAYED CRICKET FOR 4 HOURS A DAY FOR 6 MONTHS
Speaking about the movie, Ranveer revealed that he played cricket for four hours a day for six months to get into Kapil Dev mode. On Kapil, the actor told ANI that he has a unique bowling action and his biomechanics are unique. Since Ranveer’s body is very different from his body, he had to drastically transform his physicality to achieve it. As a result, it took months for Ranveer to perfect the action.
Ranveer also revealed in the interview that, initially, his body was too heavy because he was coming off of the shoot of Simmba. So, the coach sent him away for a month to change his physicality to bring it closer to Kapil's athleticism. The actor revealed, I was playing cricket for 4 hours a day for 6 months and doing physical conditioning for 2 hours a day for those 6 months. Four months of prep and 2-3 months of the shoot, I put in a lot of hours.
The 36-year-old actor also lived with Kapil for two weeks in his house to pick up his mannerisms and develop the character. Ranveer told The Print during an interaction that Kapil trained him in cricket - the nuances of his batting style, his bowling action. He also informed, “When we were shooting that 175 not out, we were shooting at Tunbridge Wells on the pitch that he played it and he was there watching it while I was shooting it. At Lord’s we were shooting with the real cup.”
