A precursor of this year’s AJ Bell Tour of Britain, the 1974 Milk Race was a feast of hills and seaside towns. Starting in Brighton, the route zig-zagged north via Great Malvern and Llandudno, across to Skegness, Scarborough and Whitley Bay, traversing the North Pennines, before finishing in Blackpool (via Harrogate).
