Cadence is your pedaling speed as measured in revolutions per minute (rpm), or how many times per minute you complete a full circle with the pedals. Many cyclists prefer to stay in a specific cadence range. If you consider yourself to be a low-cadence cyclist, that might be because you haven't developed your nervous system to be able to ride at other cadences.
Cycling involves more than just cardiovascular fitness and muscle endurance. Your central nervous system (CNS), which comprises your brain and spinal cord, and your peripheral nervous system (PNS), which consists of the nerves that connect your CNS to the rest of your body, are critical components of cycling physiology. Together they control your movements.
