Downhill & Drenched Fun Fest

South Park BMX was the host to this year’s Stars and Stripes Nationals, and between the crazy fast racing at this legendary track, temps hitting the 90’s, we also saw some epic mud sliding - thanks to the powerful thunderstorms that brought out almost every kid and adult still left at the track to partake in slip ‘n slidin’ down the hill outside the track during the storm. In all, a ton of fun! South Park BMX is known for its super-fast downhill straights, big jumps, and its third straight pro set decision maker, but things had changed a little for 2019.

This is the third year racing on this fairly-new V-shaped track and the racing action did not disappoint, and neither did the weather, being sunny and in the 70’s all three days.

American Idols

Since the birth of BMX, racing hard for an entire year to earn a District No.1 plate has been one of the most distinct honors in our sport. To come out on top against hundreds of riders in your region could very well be one of the biggest achievements in a racer’s lifetime. PULL magazine salutes those across the country who have earned that honor. You are the BMX version of American Idols, and behind every No.1 plate, there is always a great story to go with it:

Last Chance! National Spring

Duke City BMX, home of the 2019 USA BMX Spring Nationals caused quite a stir during late December when they posted some early footage of their most recent track rebuild. The clip showed local stars, Kalvin Davis and Tomas Fernandez, jumping through the deep and steep third and fourth straightaways. Comments ranged from why isn’t every track like this to downright fearfulness. In the end, day one of the national had 184 motos of high altitude action.

Foretelling Of A Prophecy

The U.S. currently has six BMX dual-hill Supertracks, with a seventh currently being built in Houston (which will host next year’s UCI Worlds). Almost all of them have been City-funded and have 8 meter Olympic start hills. Another thing they all have in common is they were designed by the same architect - a BMX dad, former Pro skater, ex-MMA fighter, and current racer and purveyor of Prophecy frames. Mike McIntyre, president of Architectual firm Action Sport Designs, is the Man who draws up the plans, and he has a pretty amazing story of how he got there.
