Regaining your glow
Life can feel like an uphill struggle at times, as you battle against low energy levels and exhaustion. You can also be affected by unexplained aches and pains. You may have the feeling that you’ve lost your glow. The key is getting better-quality sleep, which will give you the energy you need to upgrade your health.
Your key hormones: Cortisol and melatonin. Cortisol is the get-up-and-go hormone that, in small doses, helps us to be focused. But consistently high levels can tip the body into a permanent stress response, resulting in random aches and pains. It can also speed up the ageing process, and affect the quality of your skin and hair. Melatonin is the antidote to cortisol, the hormone which signals to your body that it’s time to slow down.
Get off the rollercoaster: Cutting back on sugar, caffeine and alcohol, and taking time out to relax is important for you, as it will help keep your cortisol in check. You can also support your melatonin levels by avoiding screen time before going to bed and making sure you sleep in the pitch dark.
