Wyze Scale: Unbeatable Value
PC Magazine|May 2020
Whether you’re trying to lose weight or you want to put on muscle, a smart scale can help you track your progress and stay motivated. The Wyze Scale connects with your smartphone and does a lot more than just tell you how much you weigh: It tracks 12 metrics, including your BMI, body fat percentage, body water percentage, heart rate, muscle mass, protein level, and weight up to 400 pounds.

Wyze Scale: Unbeatable Value

It keeps your data private and offers a mode for those who are pregnant or wearing a pacemaker, addressing the major limitations of the Eufy BodySense ($40) and earning it our Editors’ Choice for affordable smart bathroom scales.

DESIGN AND SETUP

The Wyze Scale looks a lot like the Withings Body+, a model four times it's price. It features an attractive navy-blue (almost black) coated glass surface with a silver Wyze logo in the middle, for a sleek design that should look nice in any bathroom. It measures just 1 inch tall, 12 inches across, and 12 inches from top to bottom.

The Scale runs on four AAA batteries, which are included in the box. Some smart bathroom scales feature a rechargeable battery, including the QardioBase 2 and the Withings Body Cardio, but both of those retail for $150.

The scale connects to your phone via Bluetooth, not WiFi, as some pricier smart models do. Getting it connected to your phone is simple. Download the Wyze app (available for Android and iOS), click Add a Product, select the Scale from the list, and follow the instructions that appear. The Scale comes with a handy quick-start guide explaining how to set it up.

When you add the Scale to the Wyze app, you need to fill in your sex, birth year, and height, and you can optionally enable Athlete mode. Wyze suggests enabling Athlete mode if you work out more than 10 hours a week and have a resting heart rate below 60bpm.

You then place the Scale on a hard surface and step on it with bare feet. You’ll see your weight on the device itself and in the app.
