A Diwali in expectation of Rama's arrival
Yuva Bharati|November 2020
Diwali festival marks the return of Rama to his birthplace, Ayodhya, after an exile of 14 years.
Sudarshan A

This year, Diwali has turned out to be a very special occasion. Sri Rama is all set to return to his place of birth after being banished by invading forces for 450 years. Even though the political struggle with the external invaders had come to an end a bit earlier, the complete victory has come much delayed, thanks to the Indian mind that has long remained invaded in slavery.

The rightful restoration of the demolished temple calls for a National celebration putting aside political differences because Sri Rama and Rama Rajya have always remained the ideals for leadership and administration in India. Rama is the embodiment of Dharma and Rama Rajya is the application of Dharma in statehood.

In the Yudha Kanda, Valmiki enlists the several aspects and traits of Rama Rajya. These ideals set a really high standard of aspiration for good governance.

While Rama was ruling the kingdom, there were no widows to lament, nor there was no danger from wild animals,

“There were no widows to lament” could essentially mean that there must have been a system of remarriage for widows and of course since no one can be forced into a marriage, there should have been systems in place to take care of their wellbeing and happiness.

Swami Vivekananda – The Fire, The Flame And Sparks

On the auspicious Makarasankaranti Day, 12th of January, 1863, was born Narendranath Datta, a veritable fire-ball of knowledge and renunciation from his childhood, who, later, under the benign influence of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, got metamorphosed into the great Swami Vivekananda – fore most among India’s Patriots, Saints and Philosophers—a true Master, Mentor and Moulder and Maker of India’s destiny. More than eight years have passed, since this flame, which drew people to him like a magnet, extinguished itself. Yet, the sparks therefore continue to set aflame the hearts of thousands with fiery ideals of renunciation, dedication and love for Motherland, spreading blazing trails of idealism.
