Here are a few of the games (casual and non-casual) that people at SPIEL were excited about and I kept seeing in people’s bags:
BITOKU
Devir | 1-4 players, 120 minutes
Bitoku is a gorgeous game with a lot of moving pieces. It has an amazing table presence and Devir sold out of the game by day two. In Bitoku, the players take on the roles of the Bitoku spirits of the forest in their path towards transcendence, with the goal of elevating themselves and becoming the next great spirit of the forest. This is a hand-management, engine-building game with multiple paths to victory.
RIVERSIDE
Chillfox Games | 1-6 players, 15-25 minutes
It seemed like everyone had this cute winter-themed roll-and-write game in their bag! In Riverside, players move the river cruise boat along a modular board, picking up passengers while visiting spectacular excursions. There are many combinations players can build, and receiving bonus actions is supremely gratifying.
