The Nikkor Z 28-75 mm f/2.8 was introduced in India in midDecember 2021. It is a general purpose lens designed for Nikon's Z-series of interchangeable lens mirrorless cameras. The lens is suitable for everyday scenarios from family photos to normal outdoors use. Its 'fast' f/2.8 aperture helps in taking low-light shots without boosting the ISO or using an electronic flash. Let's see how this lens performs on our test bench...
Design & Build Quality
This neat-looking lens appears well made. The outer body is made with metal and engineering plastic. The lens mount is made of metal and has a rubberised ring to prevent dust/ water splashes from entering the lens.
It is finished in all black except for the letterings, which are in white. When zoomed to the 75 mm setting, the lens extends by approximately 26 mm. The lens is resistant to dust and water splashes but is not waterproof. Filter diameter is 67 mm and the lens is made in China.
Key Features
The lens is constructed with 15 elements in 12 groups that include 1 x Super ED element, 1 x ED element and 3 Aspherical elements. The front element is coated with an anti-fouling coat to facilitate cleaning and prevent smudges or water droplets from adhering to it. Autofocus is achieved with a high-speed Stepping Motor and the AF is silent as well as swift. The lens is marked at 28, 35, 50 and 75 mm settings.
The zoom ring is toward the filter end and has a 45 mm wide rubberised grip. Another ring (multi-control ring) can be set to manual focus. This ring is approximately 7 mm wide and also has a rubberised grip. It is well damped and is unlikely to move inadvertently.
