Raw images offer the largest range of adjustment after the shutter is pressed, but you need to learn to use suitable Raw editing software. Digital Photo Professional extracts amazing quality from Canon Raw images, and simplifies the process by using your camera settings as the starting point for great looking results. DPP is free to download from Canon, you just need your camera serial number to get the latest version.
If you mostly shoot JPEGs then Raw can seem complicated with all the options open to you in post. Using DPP simplifies Raw processing, and maximizes image quality. Start by putting the Raw in a folder and open DPP, then browse to the folder.
Your Raws are displayed as thumbnails looking just like they do on the camera, but DPP can make them even better. When processing Raw photographs, you have a greater range of exposure corrections, can fix the white balance and even change monochrome to colour.
