1. Use Aperture Priority as Your WalkAround Mode
Aperture Priority is a semi-automatic shooting option that is ideal for street photography. When Manual mode isn’t an option, consider shooting in Aperture Priority mode for the length of your outdoor photography sessions. Why?
Aperture Priority allows you to pick your aperture, and your camera will find the ideal exposure for your image. This enables you to be ready at all times to shoot scenarios as they unfold, regardless of lighting circumstances.
2. Shoot with Prime Lenses
In contrast to zoom lenses, which offer a choice of focal lengths to choose from, prime lenses have a single focal length. One of the most common prime lenses, for example, is the 35mm or 50mm. For many decades, both journalists and street photographers have made effective use of this prime lens, and it remains a terrific focal length for street photography.
Because the field of view for each of these isn’t too extreme, 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm are likely among the most common choices for street photography. You can shoot wider than 24mm or with a narrower field of view than 50mm, but certain lenses are best suited to specific subjects and circumstances. The focal lengths of 24mm to 50mm will effectively cover a wider range of settings.
There are various reasons why prime lenses are excellent alternatives for street photography and can help you become a more versatile photographer.
• To frame your subjects, you must “zoom with your feet”. Rather than depending on a zoom lens to dial in the exact focal length with every photo, this will vastly enhance your composition abilities.
