Figure out if there is any water body in the vicinity. Read about the flora and fauna present. The more details you know, the better you would be able to plan for your shoot, carry the gear you need and even compose your pictures beforehand. Case in point, if you know there is a waterfall at the location, then you can carry your tripod for clicking its pictures at slow shutter speed.

Knowing the weather will help you in planning the time for your shoot. Moreover, you can also use the information to plan the kind of shots you want to click.
