State wants Centre to halt flights from Africa; CM meet on new variant today

In the light of the new Omicron variant isolated in southern African countries, the Maharashtra government will suggest to the Centre that flights from these countries be suspended.

The state task force has advised a 14-day quarantine for travellers arriving from these countries and also those who recently arrived from the Omicron-detected countries should be contacted and sent to a 14-day quarantine.

Meanwhile, the state task force held an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss strategies to be adopted for the new variant of concern. The team’s suggestions have been forwarded to state additional chief secretary Dr Pradeep Vyas. Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray will behold a meeting on the issue on Sunday.
