Bengaluru/New Delhi: India’s first Omicron-infected patients have been detected in Karnataka. One of them is a 66-year-old flyer from South Africa while the other is a 46-year-old Bengaluru anaesthetist, the health ministry has said.
Fear of the variant is high, given the concerns over its transmissibility and ability to evade vaccine-induced immunity. “We are tracing three types of contacts—primary, secondary and tertiary. We have already traced the remotest contacts of these two cases,” said S K Singh, National Centre for Disease Control director.
