Mumbai: The fire-fighting system at the 20-storey Sachinam Heights, a chawl redevelopment project, was not in working order when the blaze occurred early on Saturday. Such fatal mistakes abound in the city: in the past two months, the fire brigade issued notices to no less than 223 high-rises for flouting fire safety norms.

BLAZE OUT BUT SMOKE PERSISTS AT SACHINAM HEIGHTS

  • Blaze in 20 storey high rise Sachinam Heights at Tardeo doused
  • At blaze site, a fire engine has been kept on stand-by. Fire officials allowed residents of first 10 floors to enter building and take their belongings. ON higher floors, there is still smoke in some areas
  • Of the two bodies that were yet to be identified, one has been identified as Meena Mistry (68)

6 persons have been declared dead, eight are in critical condition, seven patients discharged
