Invisible heroes of Alibaug make best of changing waste economy

Mumbai: Every day, Shah Mohammed cycles through the bylanes of Alibag, balancing enormous gunny bags with the ease of an acrobat. He periodically stops to pick up soft drink cans, plastic packaging, pieces of mangled metal—the detritus of daily life—and pedals on, whistling to himself. His final stop is a courtyard centred around a giant weighing scale resembling a Subodh Gupta installation. Much to learn from Milkhaji, he had the spirit of a champion: Prasoon

Milkha Singh, nicknamed The Flying Sikh, passed away on Friday after a month of battling COVID. His wife, former India volleyball captain, Nirmal Kaur, had succumbed to COVID just days before. However, his timing at the Italian capital remained the national record for 38 years. Prasoon Joshi, who wrote Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and the film’s lead Farhan Akhtar remember the legend:

3 Things Nailed Pulwama Mastermind: Adidas Jacket, Kashmiri Lover, And A Damaged Mobile

It had been six months since the Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans on February 14, 2019, but Rakesh Balwal, the Jammu and Kashmir head of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) tasked with the probe, was getting nowhere. Intelligence agencies had no clue that the mastermind of the attack, Masood Azhar’s nephew Umar Farooq, had crossed over into Kashmir or that he had been killed in an encounter just a month after Pulwama. So what led the NIA to join the dots? Interestingly, it was Umar Farooq’s love for two things—sportswear, and a Kashmiri woman.
