EC announces bypolls for Bengal, Odisha

The Election Commission on Saturday announced bypolls to three assembly seats in West Bengal, including Bhabanipur from where chief minister Mamata Banerjee intends to contest, as well as one seat in Odisha. Polling for all four seats will be held on September 30 and counting of votes will be taken up on October 3.

New Delhi: EC, however, decided not to hold bypolls due in three Lok Sabha constituencies – Dadra & Nagar Haveli; Mandi in Himachal Pradesh; and Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh – and 31 assembly seats across 15 states until after the festive season, citing constraints like Covid situation, floods and festivals as conveyed to it by various states.
