Diwali weekend witnesses big crowds at glittering city mkts

Seven-year-old Riddhi and Siddhi, conjoined twins who were operated at Parel’s JerbaiWadia Hospital and have continued to live there ever since, celebrated Diwali by lighting lamps along with the hospital staff on Friday. They requested Mumbaikars to celebrate a cracker-free festival to limit pollution while sharing the message “stay home, stay safe” during the Covid-19 pandemic. The twins were born in May 2013 and underwent a separation surgery eight months later, in January 2014

Mumbai: Bazaars of Dadar, Crawford Market, Andheri and Bandra were filled with shoppers on Friday, the eve of the biggest Hindu festival of Diwali. Saturday’s Naraka Chaturdashi marks the main ritual of Lakshmi Puja whose mahurat falls between 6.01-8.01pm in Mumbai.

The day begins with abhyangsnan for the South Indian community and follows with feasting, predominantly on vegetarian items.
