Mumbai: The state added a steep 86 deaths, the highest in 110 days since October 6 (90), on Tuesday. So far in the third Covid wave, the state had reported a maximum of 53 deaths on January 18. A day after a drop in cases, the state also recorded a rise in daily detection to 33,914 cases on Tuesday.

“This rise is mainly due to late reporting of deaths from some districts, especially over the weekend,” said a senior official. Of the total deaths, 39 were from the Mumbai region, and 28 were from the Pune region.
