Mumbai: The Mumbai crime branch chief had objected to the posting of police officer Sachin Waze in the elite crime intelligence unit or CIU in June last after his reinstatement post a 17-year suspension but was overruled by then city police commissioner Param Bir Singh, a report prepared by joint commissioner of police (crime) Milind Bharambe said.
The then JCP (crime) Santosh Rastogi unwillingly agreed, the report said. The CIU, an elite unit, reports to the crime branch chief but Waze reported directly to Singh, the report said. Waze, who was under suspension for the custodial death of 2002 bomb blast accused Khwaja Yunus, was reinstated by Singh.
