The Indian cricket board (BCCI) made the announcement on Wednesday night, saying he will take over from Ravi Shastri from the home series against New Zealand starting November 17.
TOI was the first to report about BCCI striking a deal with Dravidhours after president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah had a meeting with him on the night of IPL final in Dubai on Oct 15. The board has not yet released the terms of appointment but it’s understood that Dravid has agreed on a two-year contract with an annual salary of Rs 10 crore.
TOI understands there weren’t many applications after it emerged Dravid was in talks with the board. Former India batter VVS Laxman was only backup if Dravid would have had declined the offer. Dravid was head and shoulders above the applicants.
