Affordable, peaceful: Why homestays are a hit this summer

With the onset of summer vacations, the number of travel bookings are at an all-time high. Hotels at popular domestic destinations are either sold out or have hiked their prices. This has resulted in a massive increase in the demand and bookings for homestays by those making last minute plans or weekend plans, especially at popular hill stations like Mussoorie, Manali, Shimla, Dharamshala and Rishikesh.

‘THERE’S A 3X INCREASE IN BOOKINGS THIS YEAR’

Throughout the pandemic, homestays emerged as a popular option, but recently there has been an increase in bookings for even weekend travel. “As compared to 2021, this year, there is a 3X increase in the number of bookings. As summer vacations started, there’s been a massive rise in the number of queries. We have back-to-back bookings for May, and in the next few days, we will be booked for June too,” says Aparupa Ray Ganguly, co-founder of two boutique homestays in Uttarakhand.
