Most five to 11-year-olds in the UK cannot get a first dose of the vaccine, unlike in the US and most of Europe.

But experts warn the new variant could be more dangerous for children - with more than 500 Covid-positive kids being hospitalised this week.

On Monday, 102 children were admitted - a daily record. Many pupils are back in school this week.
