SoKor shuts ski resorts to curb COVID spread

SEOUL Reuters) – South Korea yesterday moved to shut down all ski resorts and winter tourist spots in a bid to stop the novel coronavirus spreading as a third wave of the pandemic proves much tougher to contain in the densely populated region around the capital city.

A patient infected with COVID-19 is treated in one of the intensive care units at the Severo Ochoa hospital in Madrid. Spain has become the first Western European state to accumulate more than one million confirmed infections as the country of 47 million inhabitants struggles to contain a resurgence of the coronavirus. Prime Minister Chung Syekyun said the government will close ski facilities, ice rinks and tourist attractions from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3. Gatherings of more than four people will be banned while tighter antivirus curbs will be imposed on restaurants to tamp down infections, he said in a televised briefing.
