Vaccine for 15-17 age group, booster for frontline staff

PRIME MINISTER Narendra Modi on Saturday said those in the 15-17 age group will be eligible for vaccination beginning January 3. In his address to the nation, Modi said healthcare and frontline workers (estimated to be 3-4 crore) can get booster shots from January 10, adding that they may be at a higher risk of contracting Covid-19 in case there is an Omicron-driven surge in infections. Additionally, people aged 60 and above with co-morbidities will be eligible for booster shots, based on the advice of their doctors, he announced.

Earlier on Saturday, the Drug Controller General of India gave emergency use approval for Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for the 12-17 age group.
