The Vengamedu native, who was pursuing Class 12 at a private school, was depressed for the past few months after losing her loved ones, the police said. The girl had lost her father around two years ago, following which her cousin and grandmother were reportedly helping her mother take care of her. The girl's cousin and grandmother also passed away recently.
One of the girl's relatives, however, said, “We don't have faith in the police investigation. They are trying to hide something and save the accused. They are alleging our girl was suffering from a psychological illness, which is not true. Everyone at her school and those around know that she was very brave and bold. She was also very good at studies and was a topper for several years. The police must conduct a fair investigation into the incident."
A case was registered. The body, which was sent to the Karur GMCH for autopsy, was on Saturday handed over to her family.
Meanwhile, the Inspector at Vengamedu police station, who was investigating the case, has been put on waiting list following complaints raised against him. When the girl's mother and family members had gone to the station to lodge a complaint about the incident, Inspector Kannadasan was allegedly drunk and failed to respond properly.
