WITH Assembly elections dates announced and West Bengal set to have polling over eight phases, the ruling Trinamool Congress faces a battle for survival. BJP had made massive inroads in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections held over seven phases. Outsiders then, the saffron brigade is a major force now.

News of polls in eight phases didn’t please Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who alleged that this has been done to suit BJP. “With due respect to the election Commission, I want to say that questions are being raised why elections will be held in so many phases in Bengal? in other states, it is happening in one phase. If EC doesn’t provide justice to the people, where will the people go,” she said.
