AN elusive celestial object orbiting Earth may be a fragment of the Moon, scientists concluded after studying the object known as 469219 Kamo oalewa for over five years. They suspected the fragment broke off from the Moon during one of the many impacts by meteors on the Moon. When viewed in infrared, the object, classified as an asteroid, had silicates and mineral characteristics like our natural satellite.
