Udaipur: CM Promises Fair Probe As State Remains Tense

AMID curfew and tension in Udaipur, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on Thursday visited the house of Kanhaiya Lal who fell to a barbaric attack by two Islamic radicals on Tuesday. Gehlot expressed his condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased. The CM offered a cash compensation of ₹51 lakh and jobs for both sons of the victim.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Thursday that it was not just the arrested accused but “a group of people” who were behind the killing. “The preliminary inquiry suggests that there may or may not be any terrorist group involved in the murder but for now there is a group of people,” said a senior IPS officer. A 10-member team under the supervision of an Inspector General and a Deputy Inspector General rank officer is probing the matter, and a series of raids will be conducted, said the officer.

Urging the NIA to punish the guilty within a month, Gehlot appealed for a trial in a fast-track court. “The NIA should probe the case in a time-bound manner. The trial should be conducted in a fasttrack court,” he said.
