US, Banks Unveil Plan To Address Food Crisis Worsened By War

FIGHTERS AT STEEL PLANT HAILED AS 'SUPERMEN' Kyiv: Ukrainians brimmed with pride on Wednesday over how outgunned fighters at the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol had held out against Russian troops for weeks, but voiced fear for them now that they were captives. Russia says hundreds of Ukrainian fighters have surrendered this week at the besieged plant. Andriy, 37, who works in security, said the fighters at Mariupol were "supermen." "I can't imagine how they did it. As I see it, there are normal people and then there's those guys," added Maksym Malyovanyi, a 23-year-old set designer in the capital Kyiv who was amazed at their bravery and endurance. AFP

THE US, several global development banks and other groups on Wednesday unveiled a multi-billion dollar plan to stave off a worldwide food security crisis worsened by Russia's war in Ukraine, a key danger facing an increasingly fragile world economy.

The invasion has touched off a sharp increase in energy and food prices that are now contributing to a slowdown in growth, prompting Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to note the risk of stagflation.
