TOP JAISH COMMANDER KILLED IN ENCOUNTER

A top Jaish-e-Mohammad militant commander was killed in an encounter with security forces in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Shamus-ud-Din Sofi alias Sham Sofi.

“As per police records, Sofi has been active from June 2019. He is figured among the list of most-wanted militants in the Valley. He is part of groups involved in attacks on security establishments and in civilian atrocities to which several cases have already been registered against him,” a police official said.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar termed the killing of Sofi as a “big success”. With the killing of Jaish commander, eight militants and 5 security men have been killed in six gunfights in J&K in the last 72 hours.

‘Will never be part of Pak’

National Conference president and three-time J&K CM, Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said Kashmir would never become part of Pakistan.
