Delhi-based Architecture Discipline exhibited their Life Community Medical Facility (LifeCMF), at the London Design Biennale, which was hosted in Somer set House, London in June. LifeCMF is a modular health facility built from discarded shipping containers to promote design as a solution to universal problems. The Biennale partnered with international thinktank Chatham House to host ‘Design in An Age of Crisis’ that received 500 submissions on radical design ideas that tackle critical issues like Covid-19 from 50 countries. LifeCMF comes with prefabricated pods to accommodate a range of functions and can be deployed in inaccessible areas and help vulnerable communities. An interview with Architecture Discipline principal architect Akshat Bhatt about the concept of the project:
What is LifeCMF?
Life Community Medical Facility (LifeCMF) accommodates a range of functions, from diagnostics and intensive care to isolation and recovery units. Its modular assembly allows it to be deployed even in disaster-struck areas, war zones, or refugee colonies. The units come installed with all necessary furniture, equipment, finishes, and service outlets. The concept uses repurposed intermodal shipping containers for its durability and structural integrity, which also opens up newer avenues for recycling.
How relevant is LifeCMF in Covid?
