The usually busy roads and bustling markets of the national capital wore a deserted look on the first day of the weekend curfew imposed to curb the soaring number of Covid-19 cases. Buses and Delhi Metro saw fewer passengers.
The hustling-bustling markets like Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, and others that usually see thousands of people and vehicles were empty on the first day of 55-hour long curfew that came into effect on Friday night.
To strictly implement the curfew, the Delhi Police on Saturday intensified patrolling across the city to stop people from stepping out of their house until in case of an emergency.
To generate awareness, display boards with slogans on the importance of staying home, wearing masks and maintaining social distancing were placed across the city and outside residential colonies, said an official.
