Jamia V-C Najma Akhtar conferred Padma Shri

Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar

NAJMA AKHTAR, Jamia Millia Islamia university's current ViceChancellor and the first woman to have been a V-C of any Indian central university – has been awarded the Padma Shri in the field of Education & Literature. She assumed charge as ViceChancellor of the university in April 2019.

An alumna of Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD holder (Education) from Kurukshetra University, Akhtar's first administrative post was as the Controller of Examinations at AMU in the early 1990s her and later as the head of the Department of Educational Administration at NIEPA for 15 years before coming to Jamia.
