ASSSITANT STEPS UP AS LOWE QUITS FOR PRESTON NORTH END.

PLYMOUTH Argyle have announced the appointment of Steven Schumacher as their new manager after Ryan Lowe resigned from his post to take on the top job at Championship side Preston North End.

On a whirlwind day at Home Park, the club announced that Lowe, 43, was given permission to speak to Preston at around 9am yesterday morning citing a clause in his contract, where he was allowed to speak to club's from a higher division.

It was then announced he had resigned as manager of the Pilgrims and that Schumacher was taking over as manager of Argyle. Lowe was then confirmed as the new manager at Deepdale at around 3.30pm in an officials tatement from Preston.

Schumacher signed a new long-term contract with Argyle in February as Lowe's assistant manager, taking him through until the end of the 2023/24 season.

An Argyle statement issued yesterday afternoon read: “Plymouth Argyle Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Steven Schumacher as our new first-team manager.

"Schumacher, 37, succeeds outgoing boss Ryan Lowe, who has resigned from his position with the intention of accepting a managerial role elsewhere.

"Having received a request to speak with Lowe from a team in a higher division, the club was obliged to grant permission, as per the terms of his contract at Home Park."
